5 easy, affordable, and fun date ideas
In 2017, the National Retail Federation projected an estimated 18.2 billion dollars would be spent for Valentine’s Day. While it’s tempting to hop on the consumer bandwagon and treat your loved one to something nice (and expensive), sometimes the best dates are the ones that cost less money, and instead have a lot of thought behind them. As Valentine’s Day 2018 approaches, you can choose a more budget friendly holiday; and, you may be pleasantly surprised to find that it ends up being the most memorable and fun one for your sweetheart. Here are five ideas that may give you the inspiration you need to plan the perfect Valentine’s Day date:
Stargaze with a Romantic Picnic
Not every area will have the opportunity to do this, but if your forecast says clear skies and it’s not too cold, you have the potential for a very romantic evening. Pack blankets, coats, hand warmers, and whatever else you need to be comfortable. Add a gourmet basket of food and drinks, a thermos of something warm, or simply provide all of your partner’s favorite snacks. The last thing you’ll need is the ideal dark spot away from city lights and maybe an app or sky map that allows you to identify what’s on display.
Classic Movie Night In
Pull out the popcorn maker, theater candy favorites, and a flick you both love. But also try and make your Valentine’s movie date even more unique. Add a blanket fort, a floor picnic, or anything that transforms it from a regular movie night at home to something more one-of-a-kind.
Concoct a Gourmet Meal Together
Sometimes the best way to rediscover your connection as a couple is to become a team and accomplish a task. Pull out the recipe book, buy all the ingredients, and let your date know that you’re about to make your own gourmet meal. The challenge and tastiness will make it a fun night you’ll remember for a long time.
Take a Day Trip
Pack some provisions and fill the tank—your ideal budget-friendly date doesn’t need to cost more than a tank of gas and whatever food you have in the cupboards. Do some research online and find something you and your partner would love to go see or do. This could include visiting a charming town nearby, snowshoeing, taking a local hike, or checking out a free attraction you’ve had on your bucket list. There is no rule that says you have to do an evening date on Valentine’s, so why not make a whole day of it?
Map Out Your Own Art Walk
Many towns have art walks these days, but if you are located in or near a town or city with plenty of galleries, you can map out your own art walk. Make it even more official by printing out a map with your "art" stops. Make sure to sneak in coffee and dessert somewhere along the way.
Connect by Disconnecting
In today's world, it's easy to get distracted by the frequent pinging and buzzing of devices. What may make this Valentine's Day the most meaningful for your loved one is if you both unplug from the outside world and focus on each other.
Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to break the bank to be incredible. Use these ideas, or come up with one of your own for a perfect and budget-friendly holiday.
