Independent Bank partnered with Veteran Empowerment Neighborhoods to assist in much-needed home renovations and modifications for low- to moderate-income homes in Oakland and Wayne counties through the Neighborhood Impact Program (NIP) and Accessibility Modification Program (AMP). Nearly $8 million in total funds were allotted for this project in 2023, which ran from May-September. Independent Bank facilitated approximately $500,000 of these allotted funds to homeowners through participation in the project.
Funds for the project were provided by Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis (FHLBI). Independent Bank worked with Veteran Empowerment Neighborhoods in Southeast Michigan to accept and review applications as well as facilitate the completion of any necessary home renovations. As part of the program, residents received new roofs, gutters, downspouts, windows, siding, heating units, walk-in tubs/showers, ramps, chairlifts, and universal flooring. Applicants were not required to repay any of the funds used for these home renovations.
The Stair Lift I was granted through your program has afforded me access to my basement where my laundry room is. I have lived in my home since 1957, and now at 90 years old, I will be able to remain independent in my own home. – Recent Accessibility Modification Program Participant
