Michigan-based bank participated in 5th annual company-wide volunteer day
Independent Bank closed its offices on Columbus Day, October 12, 2020, to participate in its fifth annual all-employee volunteer day. Independent Bank’s employees took part in “Making A Difference Day,” where they volunteered in teams across Michigan and parts of Ohio. For the third year in a row, as part of their “Investing in Volunteering” initiative, the Bank also donated $110,000 to the various organizations in which they volunteered. These funds were compiled of employee Jeans Day donations, in which employees contributed funds to wear jeans on Fridays, as well as a match and additional contribution from the Bank.
Although the event looked a little different this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, employees were still able to select from a variety of organizations and non-profits throughout their local communities to give back for the day. In Grand Rapids, employees cut back trees at Kent County’s Millennium Park; in Ionia, employees packed sack lunches at IM Kids 3rd Meal; and in Saginaw, employees assisted at the Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum.
“Our employees were very excited to have the opportunity, this year especially, to get together with their teams and give back to their communities,” said Tricia Schabel, SVP, Marketing Director at Independent Bank. “This is an event that we look forward to every year, and it’s always great to see the positive difference that we can make together.
